dear Gates: How well do you know Chinese? I know them pretty well. I'll tell you what I think. China WILL NOT devalue its currency. They will fight that possability to the very end. Why, cause they have an ENORMOUS amount of PRIDE. That means FAR MORE to them than financial transactions. This is their chance to outshine JAPAN in a big way. They want to be THE ASIAN PRESENCE and part of the solution NOT THE PROBLEM. I wont say NEVER but I will say unlike the Japanese they will do ALL they can to prevent devaluing. JDN

R. Gates,

Thank you for your analysis. However, re October: isn't this traditionally a time of institutional profit-taking and dumping of dogs in the portfolio? I should think some of this sort of thing has already been going down (no pun intended) during the recent markets decline/volatility. We have seen quite a bit of selling into strength during the quick 'rallies' of the decline. Could this October possibly buck the trend of past years? Will we see a surprise rally? Is Goldman Sachs still planned an autumn IPO?

Best of luck to you, sir.

Cheers,
Bond
