<<<BKS is increasing hits faster.>>>

My understanding is that we have no meaningful data for comparisons between the growth rates of BKS and AMZN, for an entire quarter. I am looking forward to seeing the data from BKS Q2, which ended 7/31/98, but it is my understanding that these data have not been released. Prior to Q2 98, BKS had no meaningful promotion of their web site, so it will be hard to know how to interpret a comparison of Q2 to Q1.

I did see some data from Media Metrix which showed an apparent identical growth rate for the 2 companies, but it was only over 1 month. Identical growth rates would be a negative for BKS, since they are growing from a much smaller base. OTOH, I think the period in question included a month in which AMZN was giving away books for 1 cents, so the number of hits in that month was contaminated by special promotions, making the comparison unfair.

If you know more than me, or know the truth to be different, I would enjoy comparing notes with you.

Best Regards,
Tom D
