Franklin's FNet Goes Live!
Franklin's Next Generation
Telephone Company Flips Switch

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1998-- Franklin Telecom
(OTC BB:FTEL - news) Wednesday announced that its subsidiary FNET Corp. has activated a
Harris 20-20 LX switch at its Westlake Village headquarters.

Coupled with the recent FCC 214 Common Carrier license granted to FNet, this marks the
realization of FNet's plan to establish itself as a global telecommunications service provider
during 1998.

According to Jim Magruder, FNet's chief executive officer: ''This event marks an exciting
milestone in the development of FNet's worldwide Voice Over IP Network. Activation of the
switch gives FNet the ability to terminate calls in at least 250 countries, and is consistent with our
strategy to provide a carrier class hybrid network, incorporating both IP and standard telephony
technologies.

''As FNet continues the deployment of its own on-net IP network through its in-country JV
Partners, it is able to immediately provide customers with worldwide connectivity at very
competitive rates.''

FNet president, Kevin Kuykendall said: ''We continue to aggressively pursue co-location and
joint-venture partnership opportunities and currently have contracts in place or in progress on
every continent except Antarctica.

''Our plan is for FNet to utilize all available technologies, ranging from conventional land lines to
various forms of packet network technology including but not limited to frame relay and the
Internet, thus guaranteeing our subscribers high quality, truly global coverage, from any phone to
any phone, at the best possible price.

''With accelerated deployment of our own on-net network, that 'best possible price' will get
better and better for FNet customers.''

The switch, which is currently running test traffic, is expected to be fully operational and carrying
commercial traffic within two weeks. FNet services will be available at a consumer level via
calling cards and reseller programs Sept. 1.

The primary business of Franklin Telecom, founded in 1981, is the design and manufacturing of

Franklin has an installed base of more than 100,000 nodes worldwide. Franklin's Internet
