AMD may have a Fab deal w/ Motorola to help produce K6-2 350/400,
K6-3 & K7 using copper interconnect at cheaper price than IBM.

As MOT already had excess fab capacity and it can produce Power PC chips at 500 MHZ+ range. Besides it has great copper technology.
It's itching to avenge the 68K debacle to x86 some years ago. It wants to diversify its uP portfolio and become profitable in it. With MOT fab and its technology GigaHertz 2000 is not a dream anymore. It's very doable.
