In theory, socialized medicine sounds good but in our society it would bankrupt us. Too many other loose ends.
When you consider the costs to medicare vs smoking related illnesses you have to draw the line somewhere. Remember, what the government giveth that have h*ll to pay trying to retract it. That's why we are on a one way street to a welfare state. Someone has to make some hard choices. Politicians who play "big daddy" to get elected have been running us into debt for years. Time to pay the piper. In order for kids being born today to enjoy the same freebees politicians have promised us boomers they will have to pay in 80% of their income over their working lives. That's not going to happen. Crunch time is 2005.
