P.M.,

J Morgan is honest and told the world yesterday that forward visibility in non-existent. Now, how much weight do you want to put on the $.02 to $.05 next qtr. I think that should be fairly reliable because any adjustments could be accomplished by altering the one time charges. However, the consensus for FY99, ending Oct 99, is still around $1.20ish.

Most significant part of this estimate is qtr ending Oct 99, currently at over $.40. In order for this to be true, AMAT must start receiving orders no later than summer 1999, probably sooner, so they can start getting paid the Oct qtr. Based on what was said yesterday, this may be a tall order.

I personally would love to see what the analysts are doing today. What criteria could they possibly be using to come up with any estimates at all.
