3D Labs only announced recently that the Permedia 3 design had been completed. At this time there is no Permedia 3 silicon, much less boards based on the chip. The following link compares specs of the next generation of graphics chips:

At this point you will have to judge for yourself, but I suspect that the performance of the Permedia 3 will come closer to the stated specs than what others actually achieve.

With 3D Labs' OpenGL experience (optimized for CAD), I wouldn't be surprised if Permedia 3 based cards are not standard equipment in all Dell, Compaq, and IBM workstations in Q2, '99. But this time, 3D Labs will be able to profit from selling the entire card; not just the chip. The wild card is Intel's next generation Portola design.
