Strange indeed...

Well yes it is! Isn't it interesting how the market has the uncanny ability to make everybody happy.

I've got to agree with you that this fascination with all things internet is very illogical. I happen to own stock in a very fine bookseller you might know, Borders Group. Second quarter report comes out today with very nice increases in sales, gross margins and net earnings. Result - stock gets punished for 5%. Why you ask? Seems "the boys" were disappointed that Borders.com (online for all of two months) didn't have a bigger impact on sales. Give me a break. The company is growing its business AND making money. The much beloved Amazon on the other hand has never made a penny, and probably never will now that it has competition, has a stock valuation that is just ludicrous. I sent an email to management suggesting that next quarter they announce sales at borders.com grew to $20 million and it only cost $25 million to do it. Stock will skyrocket.

What does this have to do with Netscape? Nothing. Sorry for the rant. Bad day. Well maybe there is a little correlation. It's my opinion that Netscape is a company not simply trying to live off internet hype and hoped for revenues from selling banner ads. Their enterprise, intranet, and e-commerce software are real products that do real things. If those markets can be successfully grown they have the potential for very real earnings. To me that's where the real future of this company is and should be. I don't like Netscape now being lumped in with the other "internet" companies because, you're right, when they crash it's gonna hurt. I'd much rather it be considered a software company. If they can make anything off Netcenter it should be considered gravy and Barksdale can keep it to be part of the Sun/Oracle/IBM/Netscape Billy Bash Team.

Oh well, enough already.

Cheers -
