Optibase, German Fast to Develop Simultaneous Video Editing Computer
By Ronny Lifschitz

Israeli company Optibase will develop, together with German company Fast Multimedia, an innovative group editing system for video films, at a total investment of $3 million. In order to work on the development, the two companies have established a joint consortium called Graviti, which won $1.5 million in financing for research from the European Union R&D program.

Optibase announced it would invest $900,000 in the development program.

The Graviti project will take one and half years, during which the companies will develop a computer that will enable the editing of communications network digital video films by several agents simultaneously. The system is intended for use in production companies and large organizations.

The new system is unique in its close integration of editing and viewing time. The same system can be used to manage the original copy, edit it and later distribute it on the communication network.

Fast Multimedia specializes in the manufacture of video film editing systems based on PCs. The Israeli company Optibase of Herzliya specializes in network digital video systems based on the MPEG standard for video compression.
