[Block trade]-- That looked like a buy as the price went from 3 1/4
to 3 1/2. I surmise that the trade is based on Viagra approval by
Europe in a few weeks and the expected approval of Celebra by the
FDA before December. There is strong support at around 100 but
pfizer's management is going to have to take a more active role
to support the stock and its shareholders. Having announced a buyback
plan to openly purchase 2 billion of its stock in Sept. 1996 was a nice boost to the price of the stock back then. Since less than 50%
of this money has been used, it would certainly increase the managements' credibility if they now went ahead at these levels and
put that remaining billion to work and bought back their stock.

Being a long term holder of the issue, I do not perceive Pfizer's
management as being proactive to combat the misinformation being
dispelled by The w/s journal and various analysts every week. As long
as the mgmt. sits on its hands when Bloomberg prints every rumor and
possibility about what "might have" caused someone's misfortune to
their "Viagra" usage, the stock will continue to go nowhere. The only
way to combat "what ifs" is to specifically say how well their overall
business is doing despite the currency problems and put out some hard
numbers on what to expect the remainder of this year. A bold statement
to the press about the real world of their business will counteract
the b/s that perpetuates the airwaves. Right now, I have a breakeven
position in Pfizer but will take my money elsewhere if management
continues to disregard my concerns. Dow +90 , pfe -2 , there is
no correlation today and that should concern everyone else.

Later,
