I* is reporting a 75% call completion rate and that they don't feel that service can be started until they get to the 95% level.

IRIDF is making a good decision, if it delays starting its service, imo. How can you launch a service that only works 3 out of 4 times? Sure, going 3-4 in a baseball game is great, but only completing 3 out of 4 phone calls? That ain't so good, actually, it would be pretty embarrassing. I hope G* does a little better than I* - knocking on wood.

CDMA's prior incarnation in military service gives me a warm feeling at this point. And bent pip systems are easier to test and simulate. With switching on board, it is difficult to impossible to probe various points in the system to find the problems. The nightmare is that the problem might be found to be a hardware problem such as a filter design, or receiver or transmitter frequency or phase response problem which cannot be fixed or requires degraded system operation. To not be able to test switching until the constellation is nearly full is a serious problem.
