Re: CPQ Service Plans as a profit center

This latest exercise with pricing lowcost desktop systems for small business use has been very useful.

It is clear that CPQ is now separating its service plans from its hardware pricing. This notion is reinforced by the fact their most recent quarterly report broke out the service revenues from the hardware revenue as line items.

Since DELL includes the necessary service in its product pricing,
its products may appear to be slightly more costly. Thus, lazy analysts
like the one at Oppenheimer will be inclined to reach the wrong conclusions based on a superficial reasoning.

The large corporate customers will not be fooled by this but the individuals may be easily fooled.

Dell May need to address this issue in the easily deceived market segments.

JBN3,
Hi!
Saw this in IBD today:(shades of things to come)
EUROPE INTERNET MARKET SHOULD QUINTUPLE BY '02
In '97 there where 13.3 million European computers connected to the NET. By '02 that figure will hit 69 million, according to Dataquest. The market is seen growing 60% in '98 to 21.2 million connections. While consumer connections lead business ones now, that trend will reverse down the road, Dataquest said. By '00 business will have 22.8 million connections, to 21.8 million for consumers.
Best,
Steve

No Bachman...I quoted the comparable (on features) model. Dell wins, of course. <VBG>

Fight fire with facts!
