No 366 Mhz G3's?

The lack of 366's in the press announcement is interesting, although multiple rumors were to that effect for weeks (I think we might actually have to give Mac OS Rumors a little credit for once!)

Strangely, I received a MacConnection catalog in the mail today, and on the front cover it states, "New! 366 Mhz!" "New model announced at press time!" It lists the 366 mhz G3 Minitower with 128 mb RAM and a 4 GB UW SCSI drive for $2999. However, this model is not listed anywhere but the front cover and no mention of the 333 mhz model or renewed pricing structure on the slower models anywhere in the magazine.

Remembering that Apple's focus right now is 99% iMac, I think that announcing a model that much faster right as the iMac is released might steal some of its thunder. I guess a 366 mhz model out there might make iMac's 233 mhz look a little puny!

The 333 mhz model won't be available until September 1st, right around Seybold time. How's this for a theory; AAPL is waiting to announce the 366 mhz until Seybold and will release it immediately right along with the pre-announced 333 model.

That way they have the renewed pricing structure on the low-end right now to lure people interested in the iMac into a profitable bait-and-switch while the high-end oriented 366 machine will be released along with the Seybold publishing hype safely away from the iMac's grand launch.
