Larry, Schlumberger is the bluest chip in the group. That doesn't mean it won't decline in price, because it has and is. But it is the most solid co. with the best technology. I consider Halliburton and Helmerich and Payne also in this category, though they don't seem to be quite as smart as SLB. Maybe that's because I meet the HAL and HP guys all the time around HOuston and I rarely see SLB folks. -g-

I would rate Tidewater a notch below the first three, but still a solid co. They are the Filo firm in the business, the first in when things are good and the last out when things are bad.

Global is more of a commodity rig co. I like them because they have a lot of leverage to the market, but they are not nearly as low risk as the others.

Which you would want to own would depend upon your own risk parameters. If I had to own one, it would probably be SLB. Or a sector fund.
