Dear Mark;

God judges our hearts. The important distinction to God is who we are not what we do. Are we willing to become his children? However as a child of God what we do is important to him. A loving Father is very interested in the deeds of his children. He wants the best for them and wants them to show the world that they are his. They do this through their good works.

Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

A loving son wants to please his father and this is the relationship that God wants with his children. He seeks obedience and respect that comes from true love. Not that comes from fear and the warnings of men. Do not mistake what I say. I believe there is a terrible price to pay if we reject God's offer of Salvation. The scripture says Pro 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

As you know I disagree strongly with calling someone names and threatening them into God's love. However we must meet God on his terms, He is not under compulsion to fit our mold of Him. He is a loving Father who sent his Son to die for the sins of the World. He died for my sins and that is why I love him. Because while I was yet a sinner he died for me. He died for you Mark and wishes that you would honor that with faith. To deny the reality of this act of love is to make His death of no effect in your life. Because God has communicated this truth to us in terms of a Father Son relationship I would ask you to think about it this way. If your son were to do some great act of love towards someone and that love was rejected, minimized or scorned, how would you feel? I believe God would be justified in being angry. I would be much more comfortable in facing God by accepting his gift than in rejecting the Loving gesture he has made through His Son Yeshua.

I am sorry if I am rambling as I am not much of a preacher. God has placed you on my heart often and I pray for you when he does so. I would ask you to continue to speak with him about these issues. I know he will answer you as I have shared before. Remember that there is an enemy who is crafty and sometimes he may come in a Christian disguise in order to turn you from the truth. Follow your own heart Mark. Talk to God and Yeshua for yourself. He will not disappoint you because He loves you very much. I know he wants the best for you and that he will show Himself to you if you seek him with a humble and contrite heart.

In Yeshua's love for you - DLL

Mark, God is faithful. Did you read Nancy's post.

(James 1:17 NIV) Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

>>I truly mean no disrespect, but that doesnt seem right, just, or fair. <<

(Rom 9:15-18 NIV) For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." It does not, therefore, depend on man's desire or effort, but on God's mercy. For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth." Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

Somewhere Mark you will have to decide that God has the plan, not man.

>>It seems to me that God would also<<

Our "seeming" to want God to be this or be that is our own weakness not His. We think we are strong and can tell God what he ought to be but in reality we are weak and can only fall at His feet.

(Job 38:1-4 NIV) Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm. He said: "Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me."Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand......... Read on in 38 39 ,it is quite interesting.

>>> I will never believe that god has an ego, or anger, or even any negative aspect such as that.<<<

Again, you need to explain to me where you get this idea that God Almighty has to be designed by you. I don't understand this at all.

hi mark,
If you don't mind me jumping in. You said:

<<It doesnt matter(in terms of your salvation) what kind of deeds you do,
what kind of good works you perform, or what type of intentions you possess. All
that matters is that you profess loyalty to and belief in, Jesus Christ. It has to be
Jesus, it cant be God, by any other name.

I truly mean no disrespect, but that doesnt seem right, just, or fair. I truly would rather
keep the company of good people, who do good works, with the highest of intention.
People who value that kind of love and compassion over all else.>>

As christians we are "forgiven" which really means we are taken out from under the judgement that is on the whole world. We didn't do anything to deserve it. We were called by God to it and responded with a "yes" instead of a "no". It's grace by which we are "saved" and not by works, lest any man should boast. We are saved from the sentence that is on the whole world since Adam. Now when we say "yes" we begin a journey with Jesus. And we don't get away with anything. If we sin we are convicted by the Holy Spirit of that sin. If we confess it we are forgiven it. If we do not we are disciplined for disobedience by the Lord as an unruly child. That is absolute and does not change. The christian walk is not easy. The unsaved are really hung up on the idea that christians are getting away with something. It's not true at all. I can say without any reservation that I cannot get away with anything. I never have with the Lord. I have learned the hard way as most do that when I step out into sin I pay for it every time. Now I wouldn't dare because I know. It's not a free ride mark, believe me.

If a christian abides in the Holy Spirit he will want to do good things and follow that leading. But if he follows the desires of his flesh instead then there is a price to pay, a real price in this life. It's every christians choice. Lord have Mercy on us all.

Bob

Mark,

<< It doesn't matter (in terms of your salvation) what kind of deeds you do...>>

Permit me to try a comparison here with Gods way of salvation through Christ and something close to home.

Imagine that there are two groups of people before you. One group is guilty of a serious crime and are strangers, the other is a mob of people wanting justice and the penalty is death.

You have tremendous love for the guilty group and you want to spare them from that punishment.

Now choose someone that you love dearly, if you are a parent please think of your own child. You tell your child that because of your love for the strangers you want to spare them from the punishment that they richly deserve by law. You ask your child to take the punishment for them so that they can go free.

Your child says "allright father, because of my love for you and for these strangers".

Now he walks out to the mob willingly and as the bible says was done unto Jesus they torture him by whipping and beating. He is spit upon and mocked and nailed to a cross. Crucifixion is one of the most horrible devices known to man.

Even though your child could stop this with a word he doesn't because of his love for those strangers. He cries out in anguish and you must turn away. Finally death comes. The price has been paid.

Now you go to the guilty people and you tell them that to receive a pardon all that is required of them is to admit their guilt, to repent and say I am sorry for what I have done please forgive me and we accept the sacrifice that your innocent son made for us so that we can be spared from that punishment.

But instead they say, "No thanks, we'll do it our way. We don't need your way because we aren't all that bad. There must be some other solution."

Mark, could any of us show this kind of love?

"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
John 15:13

In His love,
John

Hi Mark,
I wrote this answer to Steve but also had you in my heart and prayers as I wrote, so please read it carefully.

techstocks.com

I will try to get back to you on this post. It is such a beautiful post. The Lord is beginning to show you the way by comparing and contrasting the efforts of man to achieve righteouness with the efforts of God in Christ Jesus. Your efforts, no matter how well meaning, can never produce righteouness. Jesus walked a perfect life and offers you that life thru simple faith.
Your conscience and the commandments of God drive you towards that perfect moral life, but you cannot attain it thru your efforts. You alread know this, but continue to ease your conscience with good works. The perfection you seek can only be found in Christ.
