"Without original sin, no need for redemption, and the whole drama becomes all too human."

Then how do you explain your own sense of sin? Do you believe matter evolve a sense of sinfulness or a conscience? That would contradict one of the foundation stone of evolution.
The explanation is simple; your sense of sense reflects the reality of your fallen nature.

I will ask you a somewhat personal question because I think you have the boldness to answer honestly. Did you once possess aa impossibly high moral standard in your youth? I will guess your answer is a loud yes. Later, however, you felt that you were force to abandon this standard because of a moral failing in your own life. As you realized that you couldn't come up to the standard that your conscience demanded, you abolished the high ideal and developed a lifestyle and philosophy that reflecected this moral failing.
You have simply experienced the first step towards the Lord Jesus Christ. You can possess that high moral ideal that your conscience once called you to.
This is why God sent his son into the world to die for the sins of mankind. All men have sinned and come very short of that moral purity and glory of God that our consciences demands of us. But God so loved us that he gives us the gift of eternal life and moral purity thru his Son Jesus Christ.
If we simply confess the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in our hearts that God has raised him from the dead, we are reconciled to God and given the gift of righteouness or perfect morality.
With the heart man believes unto righteouness---that high ideal of moral perfection, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

There is a way back to your first love of moral perfection, and that way is Jesus. The failings of our youth only prove that we cannot attain to the high calling of God except thru faith in his Son.

Emile

For one who dislikes the judgemental, it sounds like you are holding out a pretty harsh judgement for ol' Emile. Just kidding. He might agree.

I imagine god could order the universe and expiation any way he wants. Why blood? Why not blood?

Why crucify anybody, least of all your own son?

With 'the son' being part of the godhead, god crucifies himself. The 'son' is relational, not seperate and derivative. This is the old homoousian-homoiousian controversy, where there's an iota's bit of difference. It separates the Arians from the Trinitarians.

You're right, it all hangs on whether we are born tabula rasa or wicked by nature.
