...why I should invest in TGNT instead of WCII...

If you believe in fixed wireless, and I do, either one is probably a good investment.

TGNT is really ramping up its buildout, announcing this week that it will launch commercial service in 15 markets in '98, rather than 10.

Both companies are lining up their ducks, including long-haul agreements -- TGNT with Frontier and WCII with Metromedia -- and CLEC authority in key markets.

With its MFNX agreement, WCII is establishing a strong presence in the northeast and places such as D.C., Chicago, San Francisco and San Jose. TGNT has CLEC authorization in 63 markets and interconnection agreements in 58.

I think this is key: In buildings representing 55%-75% of the nation's business telephone lines, fixed wireless offers a cost advantage over fiber or copper unbundled loops or unbundled T-1s. Tenants want bandwidth? Pop a dish on the roof.

The TGNT leadership impresses me; I don't really know anything about WCII's management.

Either way you go, it will be fun witnessing the invasion of RBOC turf.
