Now if only a few dozen portfolio managers thought $7/share was a bargain. I have a lot of faith, well founded I hope, that MTSN will participate in a big way in the next sector upturn. Darn AMAT and others just keep on saying "no visibility" and those pesky Asians just won't order new stuff. Damn the Lerachs, full optimism ahead!!

Was there any news about epi or RTP in the 10Q?

Ian, you are always so quick with the SEC filings. Every time I think I've found something interesting in MTSN's filings, I log on to SI and find that you posted a few hours earlier what I had just found.

re. the stock purchases, they all took place since March 29, since the previous 10Q reported no purchases as of that date.

I find it curious that they bought back shares on the open market at 6.91 and then turned around and issued new shares to acquire a company on a day when the stock closed at 5.38. Why not just pay cash for the acquisition and forget about the buybacks? The co. suffered a $400 k cash loss the way it traded its own stock. While this loss won't appear on the income statement, for the typical shareholder it is a loss nevertheless.

Well, at least $400 k isn't a huge amount of money.

Alan, if you don't mind my answering your question, no, nothing new was said about epi or rtp in the 10Q. Other than the share buyback, the only new info I found in the management discussion section was this:

The acquisition will result in a significant write-off on in-process research and development expenses in the third quarter of 1998 and amortization of goodwill over future periods.
