Mike,
Well Oracle apps people tell me that the Baan/Aurum acquisition was a huge success, delivering almost 3x the original revenue estimates. And I have heard from many that the Aurum product is poor. Apparently Baan was smart and kept Aurum fairly autonomous, so they are not limited to the Baan installed base - this topic was mentioned briefly on this thread, theres no reason to limit front office to the mkt of your backoffice products in my view.

So the point is, I think it would be very possible for Sap or Psft to acquire a front office solution and really win with it. The question is whether or not they could win against Siebel. At this point, I doubt it - Siebel has so much business they are qualifying their accts and only taking the really high profile ones.

If I had to guess I would say that Siebel as an investment today will pretty much outperform anything else in enterprise sw long term (provided they dont blow up, etc).
