Thanks Captain Jack for the link to "Wall Street Transcript" article on WAVX. Nice find MBCOYOTE! Lots of juicy news, especially the part that finally answers the question--What happens to the huge base of installed PC's that don"t have WaveMeters? (Answer)
Mr. Sprague, "we've got two products: First is the Plug and Play ISA card and the second is the universal serial bus device which plugs in externally. Both are inexpensive, I mean sub-$50, so for the price of one software title, you get our metering capability and 20 titles ( in a bundle, my words) to choose from.
Question--Has the add on meter been developed?--Answer Mr. Sprague--"Yes, it has. Today the add on meter is in the form of an internal plug-in-play card. BY THE END OF SUMMER IT WILL BE AVAILABLE AS A USB DEVICE. These are not available in retail yet and we probably won"t make them available until the first OEM's (plural) are shipping". (probably early "99"-my words based on earlier statement in this article).
"The second part of our strategy is to continue working with a number of manufactures of peripherals, modems, sound cards, DVD cards, etc. who have expressed interest in bundling the WaveMeter in their products because they see it as a value added feature". (as our tv tuner card agreement with Hauppauge demonstrates).

Thanks again CAPTAIN.

"PC Makers Hunt for Gold in Internet Hook-ups" Wall Street Journal, 8/12/98, Page B-1.

A few excerpts...

"...In each case, the internet company has agreed to share with the hardware maker a slice of the revenue on-line customers generate using Compaq or Hewlett machines....."

"...Still, PC makers are salivating at the thought that the internet could restore their battered profit margins. If they could cut the right deals, PC executives think internet and related services could provide 15% to 25% of their consumer revenue in just a few years....."

The article is refering to internet firms such as AOL, Amazon.com, and GTE but this business model is one we are all familiar with. It's an interesting read for all.

On another note my thanks to CJ for the Wall Street Transcript Article. I found this to be a very interesting piece. I hope this is the beginning of a long campaign that will start in September and roll into next year.
