"Seems odd that those who claim to have accepted Jesus as their personal savior don't exhibit a higher degree of moral perfection."

The odditiy is not the thought that you convey in your statement, but rather your attempt at establishing yourself as a judge of righteouness. You're Sometimes a relativist, and sometimes a absolutist, all depending on your need at the time. Is this the fluid standard you want to use to measure other people's morality.
God is the judge of righteouness and moral perfection. He has given us his Word and has even come down and spoken his own words verbally among men. His standard is firm, eternal and without variation. You have rejected his standard, and go about attempting to establish your own--very comical
You reject your creators judgment about what is moral perfection and how to attain it, but can find nothing solid to replace it. Your moral measuring stick is a poor standard of morality.
