Hello all..............

I am considering learning how to short a stock. As I understand it, I can call my broker and put in a short sale and after that I don't know how it works. Can someone explain what happens next?

I think that the cash from the sale of stock XX at 100 shares, say 30 bucks is deposited into my account(3000). Then, I replace those shares at a lesser value, say 25 bucks and keep the 500 bucks minus commissions of course. What am I missing in this? Do I have to give a time frame or a target buyback price when I place the trade?

Any advice is welcome...
