Re:Adobe. Adobe has a fanatical following for several of its products including photoshop, premiere and illustrator with photoshop being the flagship. Desktop publishing is, to a large extent, photoshop. I don't follow the financials of Adobe at all but this core user base is probably worth a lot. Also PDF, portable document format, has a plausible chance of bringing in zillions in royalties.

Beats me. It has been dropping since they announced the delay of a new version of Photoshop. Generally SW companies drop when they delay new product, and this one was fairly predictable, though the immediate revenue implications of being in a product transition phase were missed by many, including me.

In retrospect, it was obvious. Nobody bought Win95 once there was a known date for Win98, and nobody's buying current versions of ADBE products with new ones just a few months off. So revenue gets killed for a while.

Because the other side of the product transition chasm is a pretty hefty upswing, especially on a company with extremely loyal following and complete domination of its field. ADBE is to desktop publishing and graphics what MSFT is to desktop business software, and they are leveraging that into web publishing. It's a pretty compelling long-term story.
