With the major over-hang of shorted shares cleared out of the way, Amazon.com is likely not to be nearly as volatile as during past attempts to rally. Now shorts can have much greater leverage to the downside as they dump shares on any attempts to rally. The pressure to cover is removed and the gun is primed for a nice retreat.

I may need to revise my prediction downward for the close next week.

Alan, Of course that short interest note from Briefing.com reports status that is a month old. Who knows what the current position is. I suppose the MMs might have an approximate feeling. Perhaps new shorts came in as shares freed up and were subsequently shaken out? I have noted the price does run up like a scalded dog with little volume pressure.

Appears a short squeeze may be playing major role in
move. From 6/98 to 7/98, almost 4 mln shares (or approx. 2/3 of all AMZN shares shorted) have been covered.

Alan and others,

I thought that short interests was reported as 7.3M shares as of 7/15?? However, supposedly short-interests reported on 7/15 reflects the actual July 9 or 10 closing numbers.

At the end of the July, we may have far lower short interests as your post stated; as Amzn went from 143 on July 7 to under 100 after July 10, and ......

???

Thanks
