I guess my original point was simply this: First it was just an Asian problem, then Latin America, then Russia, then ...

Has some capital fleeing those places wound up here? You bet it has.

Are we immune to the same fundamental problems -- over capacity, etc?

I'm willing to take odds that we are not and that the problems are global. Time will prove who was right.

I look at sentiment and such, but it can turn on a dime -- unlike the boats you captain. Very small changes in non-linear systems can have very large impacts -- I think we are getting ready to witness reinforcement to the downside -- yes the rallies of the past few years have been spectacular, but if it can happen in one direction it can happen in the other. I can't tell you what the close will be today or what will happen exactly next week, but I am convinced of what I believe will happen through the end of this year and into the next.

Jim,

I also dont want to see a big drop. Too many just dont realise the effects. They may make plenty of money buying PUTs now but some may not be too happy when they start losing their jobs if the pullback is too large.

Although I am not hoping for the big dump, the market really looks bad. Per my STAIR-STEP theory, if appears that the 8600 resistance line did its jobs.

I will be going short soon, hoping for a pop back to even sometime today.
