Mary, Re: What will it take to improve the quality of audio using this technology?.

Bandwidth. RealAudio can have CD quality music. Unfortunately
bandwidth is the bottleneck tough to breakthrough.

Intel is trying very hard on this. Let's pray that the
bandwidth can improve fast enough to keep pace with Intel's
CPU speed.

Mary - Re: "Can it get to a point where you could transmit music in this format good enough for audiophiles?"

Rule of thumb - NOTHING is ever good enough for audiophiles !

At best, high data rates without compression would have to be achievable. Right now, the 44.1 KHz is the "CD" standard, but that also assumes UNINTERRUPED data streams.

So, I wouldn't expect real audiophile capability real soon - nor would I worry about it.
