Skane: I too ran into the same problem with my wife's boss, who happens to be an eye surgeon. We got into a conversation about the LTK procedure and he wasn't too impressed with it (as a matter of fact, he's now in the middle of a course on the VISX treatment.) With the knowledge I learned from this thread and the raging bull thread, I was able to educate him on the procedure (he wasn't THAT familiar with it) and when I left, my parting words to him were " I'm a coward when it comes to anything with a scalpel and I would NEVER have any eye surgery, BUT, If the Sunrise procedure is all that its cracked up to be, I wouldn't hesitate to have it done. I left my wife at work and later in the evening, she told me her boss was very impressed with my knowledge of the procedure and he was going to look into it deeper. It looks like there will be a lot of educating to do, both at conferences and by Omnicon to make these eye professionals aware of the procedure.

Pam's friend made a typo. The article I referred to is titled "Holmium Laser Offers Opportunities for Mild Hyperopia, Presbyopia"

"Phase 3 Trials indicate HTLK shows promise..."

The article mentioned the phase 2 results at the Hunkeler Eye Center in Kansas City MO.

"HLTK has its disadvantages, as well. First, the procedure is still in its infancy and is investigational. Long term follow-up is not yet available. Additionally, the procedure is limited to low levels of hyperopia ...Finally, the procedure does not correct for astigmatism..."

I am a firm believer in refractive surgery. I actively promote it. This sounds to me like another tool, but I don't see a bombshell here.
