Right, Bachman!! All of the enthusiastic predictions on this thread can only influence a higher whisper number. We're cutting our own wrists!

Bachman, you have said very succinctly the point I have been trying to make:

we raised the bar too high.

Or, as Shakespeare put it,

The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves ...

This is the point that both Jim Patterson and David Stern fail to grasp.

Dual processor 300MHZ Pentium II's I think.
Let's hear it for Dell.

I think Dell will surprise the street, it has been a good summer.

Re: Expectations and sentiment

It seems to me that if the shareholders and would be shareholders believed the high end of the whisper numbers and the split information DELL would have runup already in anticipation.. The fact that it is still south of 110 per share indicates to me that there is considerable uncertainty over the earnings and whether or not a split will take place immediately. This uncertainty has no doubt been exacerbated by the Asian situation.

The " nervousness" on the thread seems to be largely concentrated in the day trading (momentum) subset of the thread. These folks have become increasingly risk adverse as is evidenced by the posts.

I take the posts as sentiment indicators.

I expect DELL to do very well but it does not have to happen over the next few days. How about a month or two for a run up?

"GREAT EXPECTATIONS",,,,,,,,,,,,,

Check out the writings of Dr.
Milton and Rose Friedman, founder of the
"School of Rational Expectations",
nobel laureate in Economics, Professor
Emeritus University of Chicago etc. etc.

"They" are watching us and though
you may think "Patrick's Earning's
Estimates" is a fun little game,
many out there in the financial
world are listening to this and
other internet forums.

The street CANNOT handle DISAPPOINTMENT
and when expectations are raised too high,
disappointment always follows.
