This is a question that you can call and ask Vivus. I assume that an attempted hostile takeover would ruin the good relationship that Vivus has with Janssen. Also, it is quite possible that J&J does want to buy Vivus but they first want to see just how well MUSE will sell side by side to viagra in foreign markets--it would give them an accurate idea of exactly what the global income of MUSE sales would be thus giving them an accurate idea of what exactly the value of the company is.

Perception.. Just think if they tried to buy out someone with the blessing of the management. Remember they still have to work with a lot of the same doctors and scientists. The industry is small enough that word gets around.
