The electric motor kicks in for a brief period as needed to bring turbo up to full speed. For example, when the engine is idling and the accelerator is depressed.

A standard turbocharger is totally ineffective when the engine is idling.

After the exhaust gas volume and pressure picks up, the electric motor drops out and the unit operates like a standard turbocharger.

So it draws electric power only briefly...like a starter motor.

The essence of Turbodyne's technology is to eliminate turbo lag.
