<<HELSINKI, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Goldman Sachs on Thursday said
it was keeping its positive stance on the wireless telecom
equipment sector due to strong subscriber growth around the
world and the good outlook for companies in the second half of
the year.
Goldman said it published a transcript of a July 28
conference call on the industry in which it had reviewed Q2
earnings from Finnish Nokia <NOKSa.HE>, Swedish Ericsson
<LMEb.ST>, and U.S. Motorola <MOT.N> and Qualcomm <QCOM.O>.
"We remain fundamentally positive on the wireless equipment
sector, based on exceptional subscriber growth seen around the
world which should lead to numerous extension contracts,
bolstered by a positive outlook from operators for the second
half of 1998," Goldman Sachs said in a research note.
"We are recommending Ericsson and Nokia shares, both trading
at significant discounts to U.S. peers, and rate Qualcomm and
Motorola as Market Outperformers, pending a turnaround in
performance at the latter," Goldman Sachs said.>>
