Bon, CNBC reported that what hit the airlines was a failure of those oligopolists (my econ degree wasn't a total waste) to raise prices. Seems one of the majors announced a fare hike (Monday I think they said), but by yesterday, the other majors said they would not follow. With the economy slowing and little chance of oil prices falling further (and some chance they would rebound - I take it they did somewhat today?), a lack of pricing power sure ain't a good thing. Come to think of it, substitute interest rates for oil prices and that statement applies to much of the rest of the market - except the internuts, of course. ;-)
