Spencer the Katt predicted FON back in early April:

While on the subject of mergers, the Katt couldn't ignore a tip from a Furball fan at WinStar, a New York-based provider of local telephone service. According to internal scuttlebutt, WinStar is being courted by Sprint, which needs to buy its way into the local market now that Qwest and LCI are getting hitched. The tipster reports that three Sprint VPs recently made the jump over to WinStar and may be greasing the skids for a merger.
