<<<< Any Opinions???>>>
Yes: Dell is now a Wall street darling, the earnings report will be avidly read.
In the report will be many outstanding backward looking(hehe)
figures involving growth rates of 50% or 80$%, or $6+ mil/day of sales over the internet, results of the new Irish plant,
progress on new construction, 5 times the industry average growth
rate. Confirmation that computer sales growth has not gone down as far as some analysts predicted. New server products with new chips.
When finished reading the report, MM's will decide Dell is a 'must own' stock, regardless of a few pennies plus or minus on the earnings. That does not mean they will all rush to buy it the next day, but some will. Many will try to steal it at a low price or on dips. I don't wish them any luck, but the result could minimize
the standard post earnings dip in case we don't get a split, since they will have buy orders in.

... be most unfortunate.

Frank:

...but is anyone taking any precautions if Dell for any reason surprises us with earnings not so robust or does not make any mention of a stock split. The market has been very disappointing lately and it would be most unfortunate IMO if Dell does not encourage or inject a little life and hope into this battered and torn market. Any Opinions???

You said it Frank it would be most unfortunate if what you say comes true but let us hold that thought for right now and deal with it when we come to it.<g>

Don't expect Dell to 'inject' any 'life' into this market before the earnings [I don't know if this is even allowed so close to earnings and all] as I think it would be very counter productive assuming the news will be better than good.It is better to give a 'one, two punch' on the positive side instead of one punch now and a two later.<g>

strong buy Piper Jaffray analyst Ashok Kumar,
for his part, said in a recent report
that he expects Dell Computer to
post strong unit growth during
the second quarter, which will
help temper the declines in
average selling prices. The
company is expected to report its
quarterly results on August 18.

Kumar maintained his "strong
buy" rating on Dell's stock, as well
as his fiscal 1999 earnings
estimate on the company, which
stands at $2.03.
