BK,
I've read that Intel may forego Merced and use it as a technology
enhancement vehicle for the McKinley processor which is
closer to an Alpha >1Ghz . I just read a commentary reply in Aug's
Popular Science that HP is working on a server processor with
145M+ transistors due out in '99. The comment was from an HP
engineer, this would basically obsolete Merced before it is released.
Maybe there are other undertones to INTC's strategy.
