Sometimes orders are not on time. They are entered in at the end of the day, for whatever reason.

Mr Toad,

Im not anything approaching on expert on the mkt or after hours trading. If you view after hours trades for 10 min or so leading to the close of after hours trading, you discover prices all over the map. I dont believe the stock actually is that volatile after hours.

Yesterday Dell posted prices from 106 to 107 7/16 in the course of just a few minutes. I suppose after hours trading is so thin, that prices could fluctuate more.

Believe me, I want Dell's price to be 107 7/16 at after hours close.
Does anyone else have opinions??

OT
excuse my lack o'knowledge, but if the nasdaq is all computerized and 21st century like, how can a transaction ever be delayed for more'n a couple of minutes? nothings done on paper anymore is it?

I've had several trades delayed by several hours and even overnight. The paper is written on by the broker (in this case Prudential) who is supposed to turn it in to the data processing desk. On a busy day they tend to stack them up and turn them in in batches. I've also had cases where after visiting the broker he put my orders into my file instead of turning them in. (This one wasn't noticed until I checked my account 3 days later and they did pay me the difference between the price on that day and the current price).
