That is both the $64 question and totally missing the point. Finding a way to make money from something those who hold the IP rights don't want money for is quite a trick. (Though, finding the companies taking advantage of the cost savings associated with freeware would be one way -- companies providing service and integration are another.)

But on the other hand if there were a way to make a killing on this -- eventually, somehow I'd think it would destroy the magic, because instead of a meritocritous collective where the coin of the realm is respect, the community would become one of "winners" and "losers" with a good deal of antagonism between the two groups. Note that nobody is working nights for free to make Bill Gates more wealthy (unless of course they own large gobs of MS stock too)
