Bad:

------->My shorts are turning profitable. Should I hold over
the weekend? (Yesterday, was only the 2nd time I shorted
stocks).

I commend you for leaning to short ....... done properly, it's a bunch easier to make money in that manner that it is going long. Stocks, and especially indexes, tend to fall much more rapidly than they rise.
The key to the above ------->>>> done properly <<<<

So instead of answering your question, I'm going to offer this statement instead .....
" Plan your trade ----- then trade your plan"
without knowing what your intent was going in, I can't make an recco about getting out.

For me personally, I rarely carry anything over night but my plan is scalping .........
and I don't intend to sound smarta*s in that recco to you....... the plan must come before the trade .

the headofthehousehold keeps a real close watch on me ...... after 36 years she knows where and how to look for the profit made ......

but

I didn't get to be old by being totally forthright about the profit made either ......very big ggggg
