I will start keeping a weekly count of the number of total auctions going on at eBay. I'll keep it in a spreadsheet and post the totals here on a weekly basis.

As of today, August 14, 1998, there are 612,893 auctions.

Most of these auctions last for 7 days, some last for 5 days, and others last for three days.

Since the auctions themselves bring eBay the major portion of their revenue, we'll be able to forecast sales pretty accurately based on the number of active auctions.

Right now, based on numbers I've seen, it appears that eBay averages between $1.40 and $1.50 for each auction. (That is comprised of a listing fee and a percentage of a closed successful sale.)
