Minimizing risk by making regular purchases over a period of time. A tried and true investment strategy.

If we are considering one identified product/treatment for a wide variety of indications, then no, I have seldom seen a company with as many collaborators.

If we are considering something more widespread, like AIDS or cancer, then yes, I see such collaboration all the time, but must admit it is spread out among the many companies trying to find cures.
