>> Japan's electronics giant, SONY, stopped shipping the infrared version of its Handycam video camera after it became clear -- too clear -- that when the camera was used during the day it could see through clothing to show underwear, or through swimwear to reveal even more. Sony has now modified the camera so that the infrared mode works only at night. But many thousands of the risque model have been sold worldwide. <<

What do you think the reason why Sony issue a official press release about this?

1) avoid potential lawsuit?

2) boost sales of its night shot enabled camera?

IMO the press release will only do harm to the innocents. It simply makes the x-ray video camera available to more perverts. On the other hand, if Sony play the issue down by silently replace the old models with newly modified versions. I am sure there are much less x-ray video camera reachable by the perverts for their special interest.
FWIW, according to a local newspaper, some video camera stores saw 3000% sales increase for the Sony camera yesterday, almost all of them are men. Thanks for Sony press release.

Hmmm...time to tell all female in my family to wear thick cloth and be careful when notice someone with a camera :o)
