As to whether the physical implementation is different, I do not know at this time.

The point to my question was whether I could buy a good motherboard that can handle up to a 500 or 550 P-II and later upgrade to a chip based on the new package. This sort of thing could influence which motherboard and which speed CPU I purchase this October after the scheduled price cuts.
