What makes you think they'll do an equity 'deal'?
The Q said "equity or debt financings". They'll either do a private or a secondary with either stock or converts to raise cash for operations.

Did you notice the typo in the Q?
""The Company (Ligand) has incurred negative cash flow from operations since inception and does not expect to generate positive cash flow to fund its for at least the next year."

To fund its what????
