Lucius,

You mention Cisco as an example of companies successfully doing company-to-company commerce on the Net. I think their success has been somewhat for reasons not yet available to other companies in other businesses.

It's natural that companies doing business with Cisco would be inclined to do business on the Net. Their customers are well aware of all high-tech and Internet-centric advantages, so it's inherent that Cisco's customers would be the first to gravitate to using e-commerce.

Cisco isn't just selling on the Net; they're also buying. Consistent with Cisco's sheer power outlined in the book, Gorilla Game, they require suppliers to do business with them on the Net. No e-commerce, no biz.

As much as we here about the Net, it's easy to forget that very few businesses are making money on the Net. It will happen some day, but right now it's happening only in a few industries.
