Could it be just that you failed to enter the password and the "yes enter the order" within the allowed time?

Datek should have an exact answer.
My guess, they had problems with orders from several minutes before the bell to about 9.48. Than they decided to cancel all NASD orders (or significant part of them) to be on the safe side. "Timed out" was just the label they used, nothing relevant to the reality.
Again, that's my guess only. It's a pity that we still have to make assumptions.

Have a nice weekend.

CatLady, it wasn't a short sale of DAOU right after the halt, was it? Mine was a market short sell order that mysteriously "timed out" 23 seconds after I had placed it. I also reentered it and was filled moments later. Here are the messages:

Selling 500 shares of DAOU at Market. Tracking#: Q-000-AAAG-5558

Timed out: Sell 500 DAOU at Market

I have never had occasion to be "timed out" on an order before Friday, with Datek or any other brokerage. That it timed out after 23 seconds is ridiculous.
