Heyy Bob,
Yes and the great thing about ISDN that attracts me is that it consists of two 64Kbps channels which either can be used as a single 128Kbps or separately EG: while on the Web you get a phone call
your computer can answer that call by splitting into two 64Kbps while you remain online and then converge back to 128Kbps. There are
ADSL & HDSL lines also, (Streetwise posted an article on this topic
a bit back, if it was someone else my apols). Another inquiry to bring
to shareholders meeting!!! Nothing like a gathering to make De Peepster focus, lololo,, All my Best,, L & S FNTN,, DP

Re: ISDN will soon be 20x faster and used over POTS.

If I'm not mistaken, ISDN will soon be 20x faster and used over
POTS. This should be a boost to the service.

Bob,
If there is an ISDN that runs 20X faster on POTS you'll have to send me some info about.

ISDN never turned my lights green, it may have had a chance at one time 10 Years ago, but the US Telco's just did not promote it like they did in Europe, plus the fact that US Telco's charged an arm and a leg for it.

It's possible you maybe thinking about B-ISDN (B=Broadband) which runs 1.5Mbps over Fiber.

Then there is IDSL "ISDN DSL"
A scheme from Ascend that permits data transmission at speeds of 128 Kbps over a single copper pair between the central office (CO) and the residence/office. By allowing full duplex data at 128 Kbps over a pair of 24 gauge wire for up to 18,000 feet, carriers and service providers can provide dedicated 128 Kbps data access: it is the same as an ISDN line except that instead of connecting the ISDN subscriber's line to the central office switch, it is directly connected to an "IDSL router". This allows local operating companies to offer 24-hour ISDN-compatible data-communications service without tying up a port on their central office switch, making the offering of flat-rate data-only ISDN-compatible service more feasable.

The dominate POTS Transmission will be ADSL 1.5Mbps - 8Mbps depending on the distance from the company Office up to 18,000ft and for the Last Mile, eventually VDSL at up to 52MPS.

If you have a cheap Telco provider who does not want to do a Truck Roll to put a splitter outside your home, you will get ADSL LITE at 1.5Mbps regardless of the distance to the CO, up to 18,000ft.
