I went to pick up my iMac for my niece around 2pm at Rockville,
Maryland and was amazed that a big group of people were gathering at
Apple's store-within-store. A sale person who wears iMax t-shirt told
me that they already sold what they have in store. Well,
fortunately, I have gotten mine.

I have immediately unloaded iMac and followed internet installation
procedures to connect to my service. Geez, the speed of internet
interface on any sites I visited was unbelievably fast. My niece then got on
the seat and occupied it the whole afternoon. Hmmm, I wouldn't be
able to get on again maybe until she goes to bed.

Jobs expects revenue and market share to growth in the near future.
I certainly believe it based on today's reaction from people all over
the U.S.

Cheers,

Phil

>Hi, Soup! Man, I'm dying to know how imac went on its first day! Is demand good?<

We sold 6 today in addition to the had 40 we had on preorder. Also old some G3 desktops and a pair of powerbooks. Remember that Tekserve is primarily a service source, so we had tons of that work already.

People buying were students and soho purchasers. We have one set up (appropriately) as a while-you-wait internet station. Very positive reaction. Mother/daughter were here buying for college. Mother was first thinking desktop with a 17" monitor but we quickly determined that the iMac was 1/2 the price (all things configured) and the daughter really liked it. We have a iMac cheat sheet on th CPU's virtues and limitations, so I had little trouble explaining them.

We put in 64mb ram, ordered a Superdrive and got a copy of Virtual PC 2.0 so daughter could run some physics programs. They have an ethernet capable laserprinter so they're ok there. Transferred their files from an 8100 and off they went -- happy as clams. Easy sell!

I'm using it now to writer this and to tell the truth, I love it! It is exquisitely engineered. I like the keyboard about as much my Extended Keyboard II, but it needs a heavier touch. I'm sitting up close the monitor w/no eystrain.

Downside: The mouse feels small and it is round, so I tend to grab it wrong. CDrom feels a little dinky - it's the same mechanism as the Powerbook.

Bottom Line: Apple's hit the nail on the head. They've made the right tradeoffs and are likely to sell millions (literally) of these things.

I just happen to be passing through and I noticed your post.

In last night's Seattle news a computer company (can't remember which one) had said that they ordered 75. They have 5 left. Apparently there a big hit.
