Micron's DRAM Capacity Plans

- Will re-equip three newly acquired fabs with 0.21-micron lines
- Could temporarily pull some of 70,000-wafer-per-month capacity off
market

- New lines dedicated to 64-Mbit output with 30% yield increase

All fabs will be "mothballed" but for the Italy Plant -- so this will help in the overall surplus of wafers started. The Italian plant will take at least 9 months to retro fit with new tool set.

As far as yields go Mu is now not in the lead on new part types in fab or probe-to-ship yields. Sources say the .21um set from MU is yielding near 50% at both testing locations. Samsung is closer to 90% with its new 400 die per wafer process. MU is not in the lead as has been the past scenario.
