Then let me be the first. Microsoft's software prices are too high, IMHO.

Just because they are a monopoly, it doesn't mean that the government will cause severe problems for them.

Not just because, of course. But the heart of the DOJ's case is that Microsoft is doing things which are disallowed for monopolies. As in, monopolies have to be careful about exclusive contracts, monopolies have to be careful about undercutting new competition, etc...

I'm glad you're comforted in knowing that 90% of the world's PCs will run Visual Basic software. Visual Basic is a great piece of work (see, I'm complementing Microsoft!) I'm sure people liked knowing that they could use the gas at any of Rockefeller's gas stations also. People liked being able to make a phone call from anywhere to anywhere when Ma Bell ran everything. Didn't make Rockefeller's or Ma Bell's practices legal or ethical or even good for the economy.
