Hi Mark:

I was aware of the committee/subcommittee structure
of the Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
You are right that Conrad Burns is Chair of the subcommittee,
but most FCC reviews seem to be conducted by the full
committee, since C-Span has carried hearings where McCain
and other committee members were chewing on William
Kennard. The hearings I saw were concerned with the
long distance surtax charged by IXCs in order to pay for
Al Gore's pet project of connecting high schools to
the Internet. The hearings did also raise concerns
regarding the progress of HDTV and digital cable. McCain
is clearly fed up with the FCC, and I think he will
be receptive to letters regarding the FCC. In addition,
I view him as a far more impressive Senator than Burns.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy

PS: I also wrote to Bliley in the House. Since he is from
Virginia, he may not want to go after TGNT, but clearly,
he is not afraid of taking on the FCC.
